A Dad Portrait for Father’s Day

We think a “Dad Portrait” is the perfect Father’s day Card! Even better when it is repeated every year so that you can follow the changes in your child’s creativity as they paint/draw/stick the same portrait but from different perspectives and with different inspirations and art materials!

A Dad Portrait for Father’s Day

Here are some ideas to help you:

• You can create a Modigliani-inspired portrait (with elongated features) and use chalks or soft pastels (see above example).

• Once you have painted a portrait why not stick on one of your dad’s old ties to give it a multimedia effect?

• You could paint your portrait in only shades of one colour.

• You could create a collage portrait with coloured papers or clippings from magazines, old books and (his favourite) newspapers?

• You could be inspired by Basquiat and make a portrait of you and your father together, like the one that Basquiat made of himself and Andy Warhol (a father figure to him) – a selfie of sorts!

• You could draw your father doing his favourite thing, be that reading, riding a bike, playing drums or rock climbing!

• You could ask your after to sit for you and paint him in real life – make sure doesn’t move!
