The Sculpture Surprise Box
When carving wood or stone (like Henry Moore), the sculptor chips away with a hammer and chisel. When sculpting clay, artists can use their hands, and their clay models can then be cast in materials like bronze (which is what Giacometti did) to create strong, permanent objects. Other techniques include welding metal, moulding plastic or concrete, and assembling a variety of materials (in the style of Alexander Calder).
