A Yarn Story Little Ones Art Box
Textile art is a powerful means to tell a story – these art projects look at three types of ‘yarn’: at weaving and wool, and the creations of Anni Albers and Sheila Hicks; the story quilts of Faith Ringgold and the Gee’s Bend quilt-makers; and at embroidery and thread, and Central Asian suzani and contemporary textiles.

What is the Yarn Story Box?
This box is filled with fun projects inviting you to discover the world of Textile art – from quilting and weaving, to simple stitching and embroidery!
Men and women began to weave textiles a very long time ago, and soon after that, they began to decorate them. Today, textile art is an intimate part of our everyday lives – from the clothes we wear to the fabrics that decorate our home. It is an art form that can be simultaneously beautiful and useful.
Textile art is also a powerful means to tell a story – from the tapestries of Bayeux to the log-cabin quilts of the American Civil War. So it should be no surprise that the word ‘yarn’ can mean both ‘thread’ and ‘a story that someone tells’! How can we use the materials in this box to tell our own stories..?!
