Create a new playlist…

Every generation of children has a different way of discovering music. For our parents it was via the vinyl disc and the record player; for us it was listening to CDs in the car; for our children it’s through automated playlists on online platforms. And the most popular platform by far is Spotify. Introducing your child to your favourite music can be a wonderful bonding experience, but they are unlikely to have the same taste as you. So we were pleased to hear that Spotify has introduced a family plan where children can have their own profile, and the algorithm doesn’t throw a nursery rhyme (or two) into your own carefully curated list of favourites!

We recommend Spotify Kids. It is ad-free and hand-picked by a team of editors. With 8,000 carefully chosen tracks, your Little Ones can choose their favourite nursery rhymes, and the bigger kids can navigate playlists if they want to listen to Disney or, dare we say it, Ariana Grande. Parents choose what category their child fits into and the child can then roam wild and free. The audiobooks are also available to stream or download so they can be listened to offline. Just to note, the service is only available with a Spotify Premium Family subscription. You never know, the music could inspire some art, as it did for Wassily Kandinsky!
